About Gairloch Marine Wildlife Centre & Cruises

Established in 1989 and owned and operated by a qualified Marine Biologist, Gairloch Marine Life Centre & Cruises is one of Europe's longest-running marine wildlife cruise operators.

We are proud to have conducted the world's longest continuous Harbour Porpoise monitoring programme, making us a leading destination for visitors interested in marine wildlife, whale watching, and marine conservation on Scotland's spectacular west coast.

Wildlife Cruises on Scotland's West Coast

Based in the picturesque Gairloch Harbour in the North West Highlands of Scotland, we offer unforgettable wildlife cruises, scenic boat trips, and marine wildlife tours through the waters of Gairloch and the Minch.

Every trip combines breathtaking Highland scenery with the opportunity to encounter Scotland's incredible marine wildlife, including harbour porpoises, dolphins, whales, seals, seabirds, and other fascinating coastal species. Unlike many wildlife tours, our cruises place a strong emphasis on research, education, and conservation, allowing every passenger to contribute directly to our ongoing scientific work.

Supporting Marine Research and Conservation

Marine conservation is at the heart of everything we do. Our dedicated team carries out long-term research on the local Harbour Porpoise population, helping to improve understanding of this remarkable species and the marine environment they call home.

Coming up, we are excited to launch a collaborative international research project with the Porpoise Conservation Society, comparing harbour porpoise populations across different regions of the world. This pioneering study will contribute valuable data to global marine conservation efforts.

Working with Leading Marine Conservation Organisations

We are proud to work alongside respected marine conservation organisations and scientists by providing valuable sightings data on whales, dolphins, and porpoises (collectively known as cetaceans). Our research supports organisations including the Sea Watch Foundation, Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust, and Whale and Dolphin Conservation.

Every wildlife cruise you book directly supports this important monitoring and research. Our conservation work is funded entirely through the wildlife cruises we operate between Easter and November, meaning every passenger helps protect Scotland's marine environment for future generations.
