4 HOUR WILDLIFE SURVEY CRUISE INTO THE MINCH/SHIANT ISLANDS

Occasionally we may offer a 4 hour cruise, these are in frequent and adhoc, they will be advertised on Facebook and available to book through the website.

The destination of our four hour cruise is dependant on the time of year and also weather, wind and sea conditions. Early in the season we will be aiming to visit the Shiant Islands. Located 23.5 miles from Gairloch, five miles to the East of Lewis and Harris and 12 miles North of Skye,The Shiants are a small group of islands and rocky outcrops with tall dolerite and basalt columns and provide a sanctuary for colonies of approximately 250,000 nesting Seabirds including Common and Black Guillemots, Razorbills, Kittywakes, Skuas, Puffins and since the successful eradication of the invasive Black Rats, Storm Petrels and Manx Shearwaters have returned! Also found on the Islands are Common and Grey Seals, White-tailed Eagles nest on the cliffs and as we are out for longer and cover such a wide stretch of water to get there, chances of sighting Whales, Dolphins and Porpoises are increased compared to our shorter cruises.
